Being able to get your comforter to lie flat corner to corner in your duvet cover is a task in itself and often never comes out looking like a hotel bed. But with these tips, we are about to share with you and a little practice you will be able to do it with your eyes closed and a smile on your face – depending on what you’re envisioning, of course!

Let’s take a look…

The (correct) Traditional Way

  1. Lay the comforter flat on top of your mattress
  2. Take your duvet cover and turn it inside out. Insert your hands inside and grab hold of the top two corners.
  3. While holding these corners, take a grip of each corner of the comforter on the top side.
  4. While holding the two corners tightly, flip the duvet cover right side out, over the comforter. Give it a shake and the duvet cover should slip over the length of the comforter.
  5. Let go of the corners and pull the duvet cover down. Stuff the bottom corners into the duvet cover and align as necessary.
  6. Once that’s done zip or button it up.

The California Roll Way

  1. This seems more technical but once you get the hang of it, you will love it!
  2. Take the duvet cover and turn it completely inside out. Lay the duvet cover out on top of your mattress. The opening of the cover should be facing away from where you stand.
  3. Now lay the comforter neatly over the duvet cover.
  4. Make sure to align the corners, the more aligned the better the result. If your duvet cover comes with corner ties, tie the interior corner ties to the loops of the comforter.
  5. Once aligned properly, stand opposite the opening of the duvet cover and begin rolling the comforter and duvet cover together. Adjust the edges as you roll, making sure it all rolls together.
  6. After everything is completely rolled up, grab hold of one end of the roll. Stuff the roll inside the opening of the duvet cover. Continue this motion across the entire roll ensuring it’s all inside the opening.
  7. Zip or button up the opening of the duvet cover, and position the California Roll so that the bottom of the duvet cover is aligned with the bottom of the mattress.
  8. Start the unrolling process. The motion should be a mixture of unrolling and pulling apart the duvet cover from the roll.
  9. Give the duvet a few shakes and that’s about it!

So as you can see, it may take a few attempts to get it right but as sure as sunshine when you do, you will be doing moonwalks along the carpet. Just be sure to open your eyes again otherwise you may kick the bedside table or step on the cat!
